Echo Canyon Retreat

Grand Junction, CO
$315/night - Average

Eco-modern home, 360° Scenery & Trails Available May-Nov

For a memorable visit to Grand Junction, stay at this architecturally distinctive, high desert retreat on 10 acres less than 10 minutes from downtown. This home was designed for two writers who value quiet, love entertaining guests and enjoy the easy access to trails in this mountain bike mecca.

The two private wings are joined by a great room and spacious open kitchen with sweeping views in all directions. While the quarters sleep up to seven, the ideal accommodation is for two couples (with or without children).

With its seamless joining of town and country plus indoor comfort and outdoor activity, Echo Canyon Retreat provides an ideal base for cyclists, wine tourists, hikers and photographers, day trippers and I-just-vant-to-be-aloners. Extended families, JUCO tourney fans, Tour-of-the-Moon riders, hardcore mountain bikers, house hunters and reuniting classmates have all enjoyed themselves here.

Outdoor seating areas ring the house to maximize the views as well as take advantage of sun and shade. Interior finishes and fixtures are upscale but not so lavish you can’t feel comfortable using them. You’ll appreciate special touches such as the five direct entries outdoors, twin ovens, solid core interior doors and three custom showers for active visitors. Oh, and two tucked-away, built-in desks for those who can’t leave work at home.

We overlook the Grand Valley at the midpoint of wine country and biking bliss. The entrance to the Colorado National Monument is within a half-mile of the front door, and Bangs Canyon Recreation Area is accessible directly from our land. You don’t even need a car to explore the nearby Lunch Loop trails, ride Rim Rock Drive over the Monument or take in a tour of the valley’s vineyards. At night, you can enjoy both the stars and the glimmer of city lights.

Fruita and Palisade offer many more options within a half-hour radius. Within less than two hours, Moab’s arches, Glenwood Springs’ mineral pools, the Grand Mesa’s alpine lakes and Black Canyon National Park beckon.

Both bedroom suites feature queen beds and their own entries to the outdoors. The larger master suite is connected to a spacious bathroom with water closet and step-in steam shower. Between this bedroom and the great room, a book-lined stairway leads to a cozy study with a single bed and a sunrise-facing balcony.

The family suite has an attached bath and walk-in shower, plus a TV/exercise room with a queen-size hide-a-bed, making this arrangement ideal for parents with kids. A powder room off the main entry also has a shower and can serve guests using the auxiliary rooms.

Because we’re readers, our rooms feature plenty of light, something the hospitality industry in general still hasn’t learned. Everything but the study and balcony are on one level. Passages and doorways are ADA-compatible.

Children are welcome. Smoking is not. There’s Wi-Fi, a Blueray player and cable TV, but if your kids’ idea of fun is Disneyland instead of exploring desert canyons, there are some better options for your family in the area.

PLEASE NOTE: This home was designed as a private residence and is being rented for similar use. It is not intended to be an events center or a facility to host large groups who are not staying at the house. While this is not to discourage you from having guests during your stay, we ask that you respect our neighbors and the character of the subdivision. If you have any questions about uses for meetings, family reunions or larger receptions, please discuss your plans with the manager prior to booking.

What Makes This Home Special

In 1999, with another family member, the owners bought a sizable stretch of property that abuts the Bangs Canyon Recreation Area with its extensive trail system.  They worked with a local architect to take advantage of the site’s scenic prospects while respecting others’ views and leaving a modest footprint in the fragile desert.  Their commitment to the landscape around it and their strict attention to every detail in this home resulted in a breathtaking work of art.

The adjoining public lands and large private lots create a feeling of privacy. And the location could not be better… guests can be off adventuring on trails within a minute, reach the grocery store in five and get downtown on a bike in 25.  It is perfect and we know it will take your breath away the moment you arrive.

Meet Michelle | Property Manager

My name is Michelle and I own CrashPad – a vacation rental management company serving Grand Junction, Fruita and Palisade, Colorado. I grew up in the area and feel very fortunate to get to call it home. I love cycling and want to share the great things our valley has to offer with the world. If you can do it outdoors, you can do it within 45 minutes of any home we manage. Skiing and wine country tourism too!

If you would like to be in luxurious comfort with the wildness of desert outside your door, then this is the place for you. The house is simply beautiful, tasteful, comfortable with patios and views of the desert in every direction. You feel like you’re in the wilderness, but only 15 minutes from downtown Grand Junction. For us, the best of all was being able to access hiking trails into the Monument without having to get into our call. Can’t wait to stay there again!

Robert G.

We had a great stay here. The scenery around the house couldn’t be more beautiful and the house itself is really well-designed with beautiful finishes. The property manager was very good aside from a small mishap at the beginning when we got there and the key was not where she had indicated. Accidents happen. Also, she was very accommodating when we accidentally locked ourselves out of the house the next day. 🙂 I would definitely recommend this to a friend or stay there again.
